When Wisdom Teeth Need to Come Out
Wisdom teeth (third molars) usually appear between the late teens and mid-twenties, and don’t always have room to grow in properly. When they come in at an angle, get stuck against the tooth in front (impaction), or trap food and bacteria under the gum, they can cause pain, swelling, infection or damage to neighbouring teeth – that’s when removal is recommended.

Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out – if yours have grown in straight, are fully erupted, and you can clean around them properly, we’ll usually recommend monitoring rather than surgery. The X-ray above is exactly how we assess this: it shows the angle of each wisdom tooth and its position relative to the jaw and nerve before any decision is made.
What the Procedure Involves
Most wisdom tooth extractions at Hplus are done under local anaesthesia in a single visit. Straightforward cases are quick; impacted teeth that need a small surgical approach take longer and may involve a few stitches that dissolve on their own. Either way, you’re talked through what to expect beforehand and given clear aftercare instructions – what to eat, how to manage swelling, and when to follow up.
Recovery is typically a few days of mild discomfort and swelling, manageable with the pain relief we prescribe. Most patients are back to normal eating and activity within a week.
